The other-other FBS team in SC just beat App State again, is 8-1, and is led by a coach who won conference championships in year 3 at North Greenville, Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. And we told him no thanks.

Butch Jones won two conference titles in 3 years Central Michigan, then won 2 conference titles in 3 years with Cincinnati - then proceeded to crap the bed in Tennessee. There are no guaranteed winners in the SEC outside of a few guys (and Chadwell isn't one of them). Best of luck to him - he could do great at a Power 5 school. Or he may not. That's the nature of the game.

What makes you so sure? Gus Malzhan was a high school guy, won a NC at Auburn as OC and took em to another NC game as HC. Urban Meyer came from Bowling Green University. This attitude some of us have that no one outside the SEC can win in the SEC is crazy.

Exactly. Coastal sure moved the ball better than I remember us moving the ball on App State.

He wouldnt take OC. Hes the HC now at arguably a better FBS team/job

LOL. Coastal is not a "better FBS team/job" than ANY SEC head coaching job, including Vandy, or really any P5 head coaching job.

Get back to me when they stop losing to teams like Old Dominion by 4 TDs.

Definitely would have made more sense to hire him. But you have to consider who's doing the hiring. He probably wanted too much anyway. We had a huge buyout to contend with, so Tanner was looking to hire on the cheap.

No one said anything about not going outside the SEC for a coach. (And Meyer came from Utah after an undefeated season and top 5 final ranking, but that's beside the point). At the time, Meyer was also not a guaranteed winner. Now he is. That's the point. There are only a handful of guys alive today that would be guaranteed winners at USC - Meyer being one of them. You could add Saban. I don't think Smart is there yet, but there are probably a few others. Essentially the guaranteed guys are transcendent in the sport.

But after that upper tier of guys - everyone is a crapshoot. Take Dabo - if he starts his head coaching career at Auburn, he's probably a wide receiver coach in the XFL right now. I'm not against Chadwell at all, but he's not a guarantee. I don't think he has the personality for the SEC (kind of like Harsin - not bad people at all, just not a big-time CEO), but that doesn't mean he couldn't do the job - just as his past success doesn't guarantee that he could do the job.

How could anyone possibly know that? It's impossible to prove, and history actually evidences that knowing is really an impossibility.

Chadwell has gone to multiple schools and always managed to put together an offense.

We're headed into year 3 with Beamer continuing the same problem we had under Muschamp, completely unable to put together an offense.

And? He's done a very nice job. But college football history is littered with guys who did well one place (or multiple places) and then fizzled.

Take Rich Rod - he's by far a better offensive mind than Chadwell, was by far more successful at Glenville State and West Virginia than Chadwell at any of his stops; and then went to Michigan and was fired after three seasons. Then he went to Arizona and was fired after six seasons. His offense was always amazing at those stops, but it just wasn't working out "program wide."

USC has a coach, and he appears to have everything but the offense figured out right now. Chadwell would be a much better play caller than Satterfield - but there is no metric that can gauge his probability of success at USC.

You're much more excited about what's looking like a 6-6 season than most fanbases would consider figuring out. Especially when you mention Rich Rod at Arizona being a failure when he only had one season with fewer than 7 wins.

If we finish the regular season winning one out of the last three games and the offense continues at its current production level, Ray and the BOT should tell Beamer if he doesn't make an OC change he is going to live or die with what happens in Season 3.

Muschamp was coddled his assistant coaches too long because Ray coddled Muschamp. We can't afford to go through that again.

There is no way Beamer will actually bring back Satterfield next year.

The question is do we really think Beamer can make a good hire at OC?

I was told quite emphatically that replacing Satterfield "wasn't happening". And that's a trusted poster saying that.

Oh, I could totally see them bringing Sat back if they beat UF (or UT/CU) and then win the bowl game. That would put us at 8-5 on the season. That's an easy sell to the fanbase. He'll also get an extension.

With regard to a new hire, I think Beamer deserves at least one chance to right the ship.

Well they are ranked above us, again. They’ve hosted GameDay recently we havent. Yep they had a bad upset. The way we played vs Florida and Missouri we’d probably lose to ODU also.

USC has to get over this “whatever, we’re SEC” mentality. So what? Yay, we get our brains beat in 50% of the time. Thats a better program than one thats putting FBS conference championship banners up, hosting GameDay and is in the top 25?

How do you say “far more successful”?? Glenville was NAIA. Not knocking it but lowest level. Chadwell won conference championships at D2, FCS/D1 and FBS now

CCU is off Saturday. No game at Virginia. So they will play JMU then probably Troy, maybe Southern Miss and a bowl game. If they get the QB back, there looking at a 1 or 2 loss season. Excellent season.

Yes. Every SEC program is a better program. We don't need to "get over" anything. Nut hug them all you want, but the rest of the world doesn't care. That's why you don't see Coastal, at 9-1, in the playoff discussion. They are in a JV league, and yes, occasionally/rarely a JV league team beats a better program, but that doesn't mean shit in the big picture. Nobody cares. If they bone you up so much, they are accepting new fans. Have at it.

Even though I don't think many would bet the farm on USC defeating Coastal in a head-to-head, this shouldn't be a "we would beat them if we played them" discussion. Many great D1 coaches started out exactly where Chadwell is today. This is about consistently doing more with less - something we've been doing the opposite of for most of this decade.

They need that QB back. Hes an NFL player and they may not beat JMU without him

You realize the 2022 Gamecocks would probably finish 4th or 5th in that JV league right?
